Overview Hearing loss that occurs gradually as you age (presbycusis) is common. Almost half the people in the United States older than age 65 have some degree of hearing loss. Hearing loss is defined as one of three types: Conductive (involves outer or middle ear) Sensorineural (involves inner ear) Mixed (combination of the two) Aging and chronic exposure to loud noises both contribute to hearing loss. Other factors, such as excessive earwax, can temporarily reduce how well your ears conduct sounds. You can't reverse most types of hearing loss. However, you and your doctor or a hearing specialist can take steps to improve what you hear. Hearing loss and deafness:  Normal hearing and impaired Hearing  The actual organ of hearing is the cochlea in the inner ear. The cochlea receives sound waves and passes them on to the brain. This works smoothly in people with normal hearing. The ears receive sound waves and change them into signals which are sent along nerves to the brain. The brain then analyzes the signals, recognizes them as sounds, and interprets them: as soft music, for instance, or as loud honking or human voices. Sound waves are created when an object moves, for example when a guitar string or loudspeaker membrane vibrates. Whether we hear a sound depends both on the power of the sound (“sound level” or “sound pressure level”) as well as on the frequency (or “pitch”) of the vibration. What do “decibel” and “hertz” mean? اختیاری احواس سے مراد وہ احواس ہیں جن پر انسان کو اختیار  Control حاصل ہے۔ انسان اپنی مرضی سے ان کا استعمال کرتا ہے اور جب چاہے ان کو استعمال میں نہیں لاتا لیکن جہاں تک غیر اختیاری احواس کا تعلق ہے اس پر انسان کو اختیار نہیں ۔ انسان کی یہ جس ہر وقت کام کرتی ہے مثلاً اُٹھتے بیٹھتے ، چلتے پھرتے ہوتے جاگتے جتنی کہ یہ جس (ساعت)) انسان کی وہ جس ہے جو پیدائش سے قبل کام شروع کرتی ہے اور موت کے بعد بھی کچھ وقت تک کام کرتی رہتی ہے۔ اب میڈیکل میں ہونے والی تحقیق سے یہ بات ثابت ہو چکی ہے کہ بچہ اس وقت بھی آواز میں سنتا ہے جبکہ وہ ابھی ماں کے پیٹ میں ہوتا ہے اور جہاں تک وفات پانے کے بعد کا تعلق ہے اس کی تصدیق نہ صرف جدید سائنس نے کی ہے بلکہ ہمارے مذهب اسلام نے بھی کی ہے۔ حدیث کا مفہوم کچھ یوں ہے کہ ( موت کے بعد آدمی (مردہ) اپنے عزیز و اقارب کے رونے کی آواز میں سنتا ہے) لیکن اس کے دیگر احواس اس وقت اس کا ساتھ نہیں دیتے جس کی وجہ سے اُسے یہ معلوم نہیں ہوتا کہ یہ کیوں رو رہے  ہیں۔ ایک ماہر نفسیات کے مطابق فرد اپنے احواسِ خمسہ سے مندرجہ ذیل تناسب سے سیکھتا دیکھنے کی حس 75٪   سماعت ک...
